I don’t know about you, but when the weather changes like it has recently in Northern California, my wine preference changes as well. When I start seeing frost on my car windows and the fireplace going, it puts me in the mood for wine that is richer, darker, and bolder. I must admit in the warm summer months if I am not going to drink a glass of Rosé, I am typically going for an ice cold beer. In the winter months my inclination changes to wine exclusively.
The fact that I make 13 different varietals means that I have the challenge to enjoy each one of the 13 intimately and individually. My focus turns to exploring wine such as: Petite Sirah, Cabernet, Malbec, Merlot, Cuvee, and anything that will leave my teeth with a nice purple hue. It is also convenient that the foods we eat this time of year are more conducive to these big reds.
We make sure to time our wine releases around the changing seasons. With colder weather in mind, we just sent out our new release 2010 Petite Sirah in our wine club. My vision was to see folks sitting next to a fireplace, wearing thick wool socks and drinking a glass of our dense, opulent, and of course delicious Petite Sirah. These big reds will warm your hearts and holidays.
Enjoy the winter and whatever wine suits your mood!
